about jack

Jack is a composer, pianist, audio engineer/sound designer, and volunteer educator. He was raised in Western Pennsylvania in a small town just north of Pittsburgh - an area rich with musical influences ranging from classical to jazz. Jack's fascination with music was born there, and his musical experiences in Pennsylvania were instrumental in determining his life's course.

His musical journey started early, as he studied and wrote jazz ensemble arrangements from 7th through 12th grade. He chose to attend the Berklee College of Music, and earned a degree in Music Composition. During his time there, he composed and arranged for instrumental ensembles of varying sizes and musical styles. He also studied recording techniques.

After Berklee, a period ensured where Jack composed and performed original pop songs for a musical group that eventually signed with Arista Records in 1978. At that point, his interest in audio engineering began. After gaining experience in several New York and New England studios, he, along with a select group of partners, chose to construct a recording studio in Rhode Island. That studio, now a soley-owned, Rametta family business, still exists in Warwick, RI, where he has used his music compositional skills to create scores for countless music and broadcast projects, for radio, TV, and corporate use. During this time, he has earned several awards, including New England Emmys, Promax Awards, and a Telly Award. He was also chosen to compose the filmscore for the Rhode Island 350th Anniversary celebration.

In 2001, Jack designed and organized a volunteer instrumental music program for Our Lady of Mercy School in East Greenwich. The program continues today, and has grown to include 5 ensembles, ranging from 4th grade beginners through Concert Band. Jack regularly arranges for the groups, teaches classes, and directs ensembles. He continues to administer the program, arranging field trips, concerts, and fund raisers.

In 2010, Jack began to work on his advanced graduate degree at the University of Rhode Island, seeking a Master of Music in Performance, with a focus in composition. He expects to complete that degree in May, 2015. During his time at URI, he was awarded 2nd place in the Gibbs Solo Composition Contest, and he also won the Livingston-Zitkin Award for best graduate paper.
